“Are you afraid?”

Eli’s whisper was barely more than a breath against Cal’s tender, swollen mouth. They clung to each other, slippery with sweat, tangled in the blanket they’d spread out deep in the trees of their special hill.

Cal stroked his damp, curly hair away from his forehead and grinned. His fingers trembled and nerves threatened to choke him, but he’d never felt safer than he did right then on the edge of anticipation.

“Yeah, I’m afraid,” he murmured, wrapping his arms around Eli’s bare shoulders, “but not of this. Not of you. Never.”
